Introducing the Le Charmel Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie A.O.C. 2013 from the beautiful west Loire Valley in France. This exquisite white wine comes from a superb 75 acre single estate in the village of Gorges. The soil here is composed of predominately granite and schist, and therefore is rich in magnesium and potassium. These unique mineral elements lend themselves to excellent flavors in the Melon de Bourgogne, the only grape varietal allowed in Muscadet.
We are all very excited to bring this delicate, crisp, and yet creamy white wine to the market. The juxtaposition of a creamy mouthfeel with crisp minerality is achieved through “sur lie” aging, in which the wine, after fermentation, remains on the lees (residual yeast and particulate from fermentation) for several months before bottling. This balance allows the wine to be versatile with a number of food pairings, from shellfish and white fish dishes to tangy goat cheese. It is an excellent pair with fresh oysters on the half-shell!
Upon opening a bottle of the Le Charmel Muscadet Sèvre et Maine Sur Lie A.O.C. 2013, expect aromas of pears and melons. These fruity notes continue onto the palate, and are joined by a lovely minerality that leaves a long, crisp finish. Whether you have a bottle with dinner or simply as an aperitif, we hope you enjoy the newest wine from the Master Wines family!
